Skillion Gold – a golden sunrise over The Skillion at Terrigal
Being a Landscape Photographer is somewhat a game of cat and mouse. I am always trying to catch the elusive. The elusive doesn’t hang around, either. Regular readers will have heard me mention my Curse of the Northern Beaches. Where I have not been blessed with any colour. On any visit.
And the same with The Skillion. Many attempts, many drives to Terrigal early. Many Skillion views. Some moderate results. Until this time.
The clouds had been playing nicely for a day or so before this, so I set the alarm for 5am and time to GO. And GO went the colours this morning. There were magentas on the horizon around 45 minutes before sunrise – always a good sign. Then the colours built until this!
Such a magic moment, one I will always treasure.
I didn’t treasure quite so much how I had forgotten how unforgiving rock platforms are in the dark… so slippery. Add in a backpack with many kilos of gear acting as a nice counter-balance. Quite how I stayed on my feet I do not know!
Oh so worth it though… my Skillion Gold!
