Peats Ferry Bridge – Driving Home at Sunset
Local icons. As a photographer do you shoot them, or do you shoot the less known areas? Do you shoot in a ‘picture postcard’ manner or do you shoot all fine-art? There are many answers to that question – all I knew is that as a local, I was getting many requests for an image of Peats Ferry Bridge taken from down near Kangaroo Point. As always, I listen to people. I had tried the weekend before and taken dull flat images in dull flat colour that were also – My goodness! – out of focus. Happens to us all sometimes. I have shared other variants on this image, but wanted to position the bridge more ‘in the landscape’ this time.
I am leaning toward Great Composition these days rather than Great Colour. So in this shot, I have got the composition as I like it, with the rocks of the river bank contrasting with the formal steel of the bridge. and the sunset colour adds a nice bonus. Home at sunset refers to a lot of people driving home at sunset.
I hope only the passengers in the cars (not the drivers!) marveled at the wonder of the world that is sundown.
