Dappled Sunrise, Berowra, NSW
A beautiful golden sunrise, with mist in the valley below. All framed in a pattern of bush tree trunks.
This was taken one week in Autumn where we had high cloud just hanging around for two or three days. So I was shooting morning and evening when I could. I had planned a vista shoot using a ‘reverse sunrise’ approach, which in theory would have worked (albeit risky). But that was a bust and the colours did not spread.
And the sunrise colours were all hidden behind thick bush. So, I thought leftfield, and went for a sunrise through the trees.
Thankfully in 2025 Photoshop is powerful enough to tame the contrast here… it’s two frames stacked together with an incredibly complex mask to get the final image.
